On Saturday, Oct. 9, and Sunday, Oct. 10, [2021] University of Arizona student and faculty musicians will perform a series of six concerts that will include works by Nadia Boulanger’s students....

Her students included some of the greatest composers of the 20th century, including Philip Glass, Adolphus Hailstork, Elliott Carter, Aaron Copland, Quincy Jones, Thea Musgrave, Astor Piazzolla and Burt Bacharach....Boulanger was born in France in 1887 and studied at France’s prestigious Conservatoire de Paris. According to her biographers, she convinced herself early on that she had no particular talent for composing, so she turned her attention to teaching...she taught all over the world including at the Juilliard School in New York and the Longy School of Music at Bard College in Massachusetts...the festival, which kicks off with “Nadia Boulanger and her Students,” a symposium with Emile Naoumoff, Mary Lou Pierce, Marianne Ploger and Thomas Cockrell. The symposium will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, in Room 146 and admission is free.

Events will be held at the School of Music, 1017 N. Olive Road on the UA campus, North Park Avenue and East Speedway. The schedule and lineup: Concert I: Chamber Music of Thea Musgraves, Marlon Bauer, Jane Vignery, Jean Francaix and Irving Fine, featuring the Arizona Wind Quintet, Johanna Lundy on horn, pianist Hsin-Chih Chang, Sara Fraker on oboe and clarinetist Jackie Glazier. 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Holsclaw Hall; free. Concert II: “An Afternoon of the Music of Piazzolla, with Duo Villa-Lobos and guitarist Everteon Maia; 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Holsclaw; free.... Concert III: “The Music of Quincy Jones,” with the UA Studio Jazz Ensemble featuring popular Tucson jazz vocalist Joe Bourne and directed by Angelo Versace. 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Crowder Hall; $10 at the box office.

Concert IV: “Chamber Music and Song,” with violinist Tim Kantor, pianists Michael Dauphinais and Ian Houghton, harpists Michelle Gott and Ariadna Demkov, the Faculty String Quartet and mezzo-soprano Kristen Dauphinais. 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, in Crowder Hall; free.

Concert V: “The Music of Aaron Copland, Adolphus Hailstork, David Diamond and Donald Grantham,” featuring the Arizona Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Arizona Choir. 4:30 p.m. Sunday in Crowder Hall; $10.

Concert VI: “Piano and Song,” featuring solo pianist Dan Linder and soprano Yunah Lee accompanied by pianist Yukying Hwang. 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Holsclaw Hall; free.

Fans can watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” on PBS and PBS Kids at 7:30 p.m. ET Oct. 24.
